Productive workouts that make you feel good and look good are not accidents. By that, I mean that you should have the ability to duplicate your success in feeling good and looking even better each time you complete your workouts.
A good workout is not possible without a good workout routine which is not possible without a plan.
Planning process is not much different in various aspects of life. To have a fun vacation, a memorable wedding, complete your education, start a successful business or have a good workout, you need to be familiar with the process of planning.
If you treat your planning like your trip, it makes it easier for you to visualize different pieces that you need.
The first element of the trip is to figure out your destination.
In terms of workouts, destination is the answer to this question. What is it that you expect to get out of the workouts?
If you expect to lose weight, power lifting may not be optimal. Power lifting require longer rest periods between your sets. For weight loss, high-intensity interval training with shorter rest period may be more productive.
Imagine that you are a sumo wrestler, would your workout plan be the same as a marathon runner?
Of course not.
You rush into random activities, you could waste your time and risk injury. Instead take the first step that only the most successful athletes take. Write down what it is that you expect from your workout routines in clear terms.
Not writing down your expectations is the easiest way to have your energy scattered. You already know what happens when you lose focus. A million things come your way and before you know it, weeks, months and even years have gone by and you have very little show for it.
